September 25, 2018 – Deputy Mark Cox suffered a fatal heart attack during canine training exercises. He is survived by his wife and two children.

 

 

 

 


Corporal Zach Moak, 31

Brookhaven Mississippi Police Department

September 29, 2018 – Corporal Zach Moak was shot and killed at a home after responding to reports of shots fired. He and Patrolman James White exchanged fire with the suspect, but both officers died of their wounds.

 

 

 


Patrolman James White, 35

Brookhaven Mississippi Police Department

September 29, 2018 – Patrolman James White was shot and killed at a home after responding to reports of shots fired. He and Corporal Zach Moak  exchanged fire with the suspect, but both officers died of their wounds.

Patrolman White is survived by his fiancee, two young sons, his parents, sister, stepfather, stepsister, stepbrother and other family.

 


Chief of Police Lonnie Burton, 64

Wayland Baptist University Texas Police Department

June 25, 2018 – Chief of Police Lonnie Burton succumbed to complications of the surgery related to a knee injury sustained when he fell from a curb in front of the police station.

 

 


Sergeant Terrence Carraway, 52

Florence South Carolina Police Department

October 3, 2018 – Sergeant Terrence Carraway was shot and killed while responding to rescue three sheriff’s deputies who had been shot while serving a sexual assault warrant. A second subject in the house opened fire on the deputies from a second-floor window.

Sergeant Carraway is survived by his wife and three children.

 


Deputy Sheriff Raymond Bradley Jimmerson, 49

Nacogdoches County Texas Sheriff’s Office

October 5, 2018 – Deputy Sheriff Raymond Jimmerson was struck and killed by a vehicle  while attempting to remove debris from a roadway.

He is survived by his fiancee, mother, father, and brother.

 

 

 


Federal Agent Kristopher David Youngberg, 41

United States Department of Energy

October 5, 2018 – Federal Agent Kristopher Youngberg was killed in a vehicle crash when the van he was a passenger of struck the back of a dump truck that was attempting to make a U-turn. Three of the other agents were critically injured in the crash.

He is survived by his wife, two children, father, and sister.

 

 

Corrections Officer Joseph Parise, 37

Minnesota Department of Corrections

September 24, 2018 – Officer Joseph Parise suffered s fatal heart attack after responding to a violent incident where an inmate injured two officers who were attempting to subdue him.

Officer Parise, along with additional officers, managed to restrain the prisoner, Then, after he’d returned to his post, he collapsed. He was transported to a local hospital where he passed away.

Officer Garrett Hull, 40

Fort Worth Texas Police Department

September 14, 2018 – Officer Garrett Hull died as a result of a gunshot wound sustained as he and other members of the Criminal Intelligence Unit attempted to apprehend three suspects who’d been involved in fifteen armed robberies. The suspects shot three people during those robberies and had just robbed ten patrons inside a bar at gunpoint when Officer Hull and team approached to initiate the arrest. The suspects fled and during the foot pursuit one of the men turned and fired, striking Officer Hull in the head.

Officer Hull is survived by his wife and two daughters.


Chief of Police Frank McClelland

Ludowici Georgia Police Department

September 15, 2018 –  During a multi-county pursuit, Chief McClelland was attempting to stop traffic at an intersection when the suspect’s vehicle struck him. The vehicle then left the roadway and fatally struck a motorcyclist.

 

 

 

 


Officer Oscar Reyes, 43

Costa Mesa California Police Department

September 12, 2018 –  Officer Oscar Reyes suffered a fatal heart attack after participating difficult training and skills competitions during a police Motor Rodeo. He is survived by his wife and three children.

 

 

 

 


ROBERT K. KUNZE, III, 41

Sedgwick County Kansas Sheriff’s Office

September 16, 2018 – Deputy Sheriff Robert Kunze was shot and killed after making contact with a suspect in a stolen vehicle. During the encounter he and the suspect exchanged shots and both were fatally shot.

Deputy Kunze is survived by his wife and child.

 

 

 


Corrections Officer Armando Gallegos, 56

September 14, 2018 – Officer Armando Gallegos succumbed to injuries sustained on April 21st, 2018 when he was brutally attacked and severely beaten by eleven inmates.

 

 

 


Deputy Sheriff Mark Stasyuk, 27

Sacramento County California Sheriff’s Department

September 17, 2018 – Deputy Sheriff Mark Stasyuk was shot and killed after he and another a deputy responded to a disturbance call. The subject opened fire on them without warning as they arrived on the scene, killing Deputy Stasyuk and wounded other officers.

 

 

 


  • Two police officers were shot Wednesday night in Prince George’s County while serving a drug-related search warrant. One of the officers is in serious condition.

Deputy Sheriff Aaron Roberts, 35

Greene County Missouri Sheriff’s Office

September 7, 2018 – After responding to a 911 call, Deputy Aaron Roberts’ patrol car was swept off the roadway by rapidly moving floodwaters. Rescuers later discovered the vehicle several yards downstream and recovered his body from inside. He is survived by his wife, 7-year-old daughter, and his parents.

 

 


Officer Kirt R. Ricks, III, 24

Montgomery Louisiana Police Department

September 7, 2018 – Officer Kirt Ricks was killed in a head-on vehicle crash. The driver of the other vehicle was also killed.

 

 

 


Officer David A. Tinsley, 50

Fort Wayne Indiana Police Department

September 10, 2018 – Officer David Tinsley suffered a fatal heart attack after assisting with a canine track of a wanted suspect who’d crashed his car during a pursuit and then fled on foot. Officer Tinsely helped capture the suspect and was returning to his patrol car when he collapsed. Resuscitation efforts at the scene were not successful.

Deputy Sheriff Ben Zirbel, 40

Clay County Florida Sheriff’s Office

August 21, 2018 – Deputy Sheriff Ben Zirbel died as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash when a pickup truck towing a trailer turned in front of him, causing the accident. He’d remained on life support until his organs could be donated. He is survived by his wife and son.

June 24, 2018 – Officer Richard Lopez, 52: New York City Police Department ~ Cancer developed as a result of the search and recovery efforts at the World Trade Center site following the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

July 6, 2018 – Officer Vu X. Nguyen, 50: Cleveland Ohio Division of Police ~ Medical event during canine handler physical fitness training.

July 9, 2018 – Officer Jarrod Friddle, 40: Cumby Texas Police Department ~ Fatal heart attack following canine training while wearing a bite suit.

July 9, 2018 – Deputy Jailer Randy ZoeRay Haddix, 56: Cheyenne County Nebraska Sheriff’s Office – Fatal heart attack while participating in a custody and control certification class.

July 15, 2018 – Sergeant Michael C. Chesna, 42: Weymouth Massachusetts Police Department ~ Gunfire. Shot and killed after a man attacked him, striking him in the head with a large rock. The subject who’d earlier fatally shot a woman in her home, then took Sergent Chesna’s service weapon and shot him in the head and chest.

July 17, 2018 – Special Agent Nole Edward Remagen, 42: United States Department of Homeland Security ~ Fatal stroke while on an executive protection detail for the National Security Advisor during a presidential visit.

July 18, 2018 – Agent Cadet Immanuel James Washington, 38: Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries ~ Fatal heart attack during morning physical training at the Academy.

July 18, 2018 – Officer Bronson K. Kaliloa, 46: Hawaii County Police Department ~ Gunfire. Shot and killed while conducting a high-risk traffic stop of a wanted subject. The suspect opened fire as officers approached the vehicle, fatally wounding Officer Kalioa.

July 18, 2018 – Corrections Officer Joseph Gomm: Minnesota Department of Corrections ~ Beaten to death by an inmate.

July 19, 2018 – Corrections Officer Kyle Lawrence Eng, 51: Las Vegas Nevada Department of Public Safety – Division of Corrections ~ Fatal heart attack while struggling with a combative inmate.

July 21, 2018 – Senior Corporal Earl James “Jamie” Givens, III, 55: Dallas Texas Police Department ~ Struck and killed by a drunk driver.

July 22, 2018 – Officer Diego Moreno, 35: Kent Washington Police Department ~ Struck and killed while deploying spike strips during a vehicle pursuit.

July 25, 2018 – Trooper Tyler James Edenhofer, 25: Arizona Department of Public Safety ~ Gunfire. Shot and killed after responding to reports of a subject throwing objects at vehicles. The suspect managed to gain control of an officer’s weapon and used it to kill Trooper Edenhofer.

July 25, 2018 – Officer Michael J. Michalski, 52: Milwaukee Wisconsin Police Department ~ Gunfire. Shot and killed while attempting to apprehend a subject wanted for weapons and narcotics violations, and violation of parole.

July 28, 2018 – Officer Adam Edward Jobbers-Miller, 29: Fort Myers Florida Police Department ~ Gunfire. Shot and killed after responding to an assault and larceny.

August 4, 2018 – Investigator Timothy Dale Cole, Sr., 61: Comanche County Oklahoma District Attorney’s Office ~ Gunfire. Shot and killed while serving a high-risk warrant.

August 10, 2018 – Officer Kirk A. Griess, 46: California Highway Patrol ~ Struck and killed by a vehicle while conducting a traffic stop.

August 14, 2018 – Officer Fadi Shukur, 30: Struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver as he was assisting with crowd control outside a club.

August 16, 2018 – Officer Kathleen O’Connor-Funigiello, 56: New Rochelle New York Police Department ~ Cancer developed as a result of the search and recovery efforts at the World Trade Center site following the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Deputy Sheriff Patrick Rohrer, 35

Wyandotte County Kansas Sheriff’s Office

June 15, 2018 – Deputy Sheriff Patrick Rohrer and Deputy Sheriff Theresa King were shot and killed while transporting a prisoner to the County Correction and Court Services Building. During the transport, the prisoner attacked them and was able to disarm one of the deputies and shot them both. One of the deputies managed to return fire and wounded the subject.

 


Deputy Sheriff Theresa King, 44

Wyandotte County Kansas Sheriff’s Office

Correctional Officer Tawanna Marin, 48

June 18, 2018 – Correctional Officer Tawanna Marin was struck and killed while supervising an inmate work crew. The vehicle entered the highway and then struck her, causing her to become pinned between the car and a dump truck used by the work crew.

 

 

 

Collection Operations Manager Christopher Todd Bacon, 51

June 7, 2018 – Collection Operations Manager Christopher Bacon was killed in a vehicle crash when his department vehicle struck the back of a tractor-trailer. He is survived by his wife and four children.

 

 


Officer Malcus Williams, II, 51

Ashland Oregon Police Department

March 2, 2018 – Officer Malcus Williams suffered a fatal heart attack after responding to a domestic violence call. He is survived by his wife, three daughters, and two sisters.

 

 

 


Sergeant Charles Salaway, 55

New York State Police

June 9, 2018 – Sergeant Charles Salaway died as the result of the cancer he developed following his participation in the search and recovery efforts at the World Trade Center site following the 9/11 Terrorist Attacks. He is survived by his wife, three sons, and two daughters. His wife and one son both serve with the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office.

 

 

Trooper First Class Walter Greene, 51

Connecticut State Police

May 31, 2018 – Trooper First Class Walter Greene died from illnesses he contracted while participating in rescue and recovery efforts at the World Trade Center site following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Trooper Greene and his canine had responded to the World Trade Center to search for possible survivors.


Officer Charles Irvine, Jr., 23

Milwaukee Wisconsin Police Department

June 7, 2018 – Officer Charles Irvine was killed in a crash while in pursuit of a fleeing vehicle. During the pursuit, Officer Irvine’s patrol car left the roadway and collided with a support wall of an overpass.

 

 

Senior Special Agent Paul Scott Ragsdale, 41

May 24, 2018 – Senior Special Agent Scott Ragsdale suffered a fatal heart attack while participating in arrest techniques training. He is survived by his wife and two children.

 

 

 


Special Agent in Charge David J. LeValley

May 26, 2018 – Special Agent in Charge David LeValley died as the result of cancer he developed following his involvement in the search and rescue efforts immediately following the terrorist attacks on World Trade Center.

 

 


Chief of Detectives William Allee, 76

New York City Police Department

May 24, 2018 – Chief of Detectives William Allee died from illnesses he contracted while assisting in the rescue and recovery efforts at the World Trade Center site following the terrorist attacks. During his efforts he was exposed to and inhaled toxic materials. He developed leukemia as a direct result of contacting those materials.

 


Sergeant Daniel Baker, 32

Dickson County Tennessee Sheriff’s Office

May 30, 2018 – Sergeant Daniel Baker was shot and killed after responding to a call about a suspicious vehicle. After losing radio contact with Sergeant Baker, GPS was used to track his vehicle. Officers then discovered his body inside his patrol car.

Sergeant Baker is survived by his wife, children, and his father and stepbrother who also serve as law enforcement officers within the same department.


Tuco

Stephens County Oklahoma Sheriff’s Office

May 20, 2018 – Sadly, Tuco drowned while on the way to assist a stranded flood victim.

Deputy Matthew Brown and Tuco got caught in high flood waters, causing Deputy Brown to lose control of their vehicle at a low spot in the roadway. The car began to hydroplane and  then overturned into the high water. Then the underside caught fire.

Another deputy who was also en route to help the flood victim, saw the overturned patrol and stopped to save his fellow deputy who was trapped inside, along with Tuco who was secured in a K9 crate in the rear compartment of the vehicle. The deputy went under water and broke a window and freed Deputy Brown. The two immediately attempted to save Tuco, but the vehicle was partially submerged in water while the rest was fully engulfed in flames.

A memorial service was held in Tuco’s honor.
