What’s In Your Off-Duty Holster?

What's in your off-duty holster?

Writers, what’s your favorite laptop? How about your favorite pen, or your preferred chair? Would you switch if you didn’t have to? Or would you stick to what feels best for you?

Well, that’s sort of what it’s like for cops and which weapon they prefer to carry while off-duty. Where they carry that weapon is also a matter of personal preference. I absolutely hated ankle holsters. Maybe it’s because I often found myself in foot pursuits across rugged terrain or up and down apartment steps and through back alleys. In either case, the darn holster seemed to have a mind of its own and almost always wanted to go in a direction opposite of my travels. Its favorite direction of travel was down and it always took a hostage when it went…my sock.  Grrr…

But that’s a blog topic for another day.

Officers carry a variety of off-duty weapons. And they, as I said, carry what’s best and most comfortable for them. A few of those preferred weapons are:

Sig Sauer P238 SAS (5.5 inches in length – .380)

Heckler & Koch (H&K) P2000 (9mm and .40)

Kimber Ultra Carry II (.45ACP)

Walther PPK/S (.380 ACP)

Glock mod. 22 (.40)

* Officers must qualify with the weapons they carry.
