Friday's Heroes - Remembering the fallen officers

The Graveyard Shift extends our condolences to the families of each of these brave officers.

Officer David Curtis, 31, and Officer Jeffrey Kocab, 31

Tampa Florida Police Department

June 29, 2010 – Officers David Curtis and Officer Jeffrey Kocab were shot and killed while attempting to make an arrest at a traffic stop. The officers had stopped the car because it didn’t have a rear license plate. A passenger in the vehicle who was wanted for passing bad checks shot the officers when they attempted to arrest him.

Officer Curtis leaves behind his wife and four children.

Natural Resources Officer Luke D. Nihart, 32

Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks Law Enforcement Division

June 26, 2010 – Officer Luke Nihart was killed in an ATV accident while working a festival in the Tuttle Creek State Park. He is survived by his wife and two children.

Officer Brent Oswald, 47

California Highway Patrol

June 27, 2010 – Officer Brett Oswald was killed by a passing vehicle while he was checking an abandoned car. The vehicle struck his patrol car pushing it into him.

Officer Justin McGrory, 28

California Highway Patrol

June 27, 2010 – Officer Justin McGrory was struck and killed by a drunk driver while conducting a field sobriety test on I-15. He leaves behind his expectant wife and three children.

Deputy Sheriff Carol Scrugg, 48

Marshall County Mississippi Sheriff’s Department

Deputy Carol Scruggs was killed in an automobile accident while responding to reports of a  vehicle that was seen at a bank that had been robbed.
