Special Agent Joseph M. Peters, 24

Criminal Investigation Division, U.S. Army

October 6, 2013 – Special Agent Joseph M. Peters was killed by an improvised explosive device while accompanying soldiers in Afghanistan.

Three soldiers—1st Lt. Jennifer M. Moreno,25, Pfc. Cody J. Patterson,24, and Sgt. Patrick C. Hawkins, 25—were also killed in the blast.

Agent Peters is survived by his wife and 20-month-old son.

*According to the Springfield News Leader, Agent Peters’ hometown paper, Peters’ family has not been provided death benefits due to the recent government shutdown.
