Friday’s Heroes: Remembering The Fallen

Friday's Heroes - Remembering the fallen officers

Patrolman Jerry Jones, 27

Charleston West Virginia Police Department

Officer Jerry Jones’s career came to an end on September 13, 2009. He and other officers were involved in a pursuit with a suspect wanted in a hit and run accident when the fleeing criminal began to ram the police vehicles. In self defense, officers opened fire on the suspect. Officer Jones was struck by crossfire. The round entered his body below the neck area, just above his protective body armor. He died while receiving emergency treatment at the local hospital. Officer Jones, a veteran of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, is survived by his wife. They had been recently married.
