Urbandale Iowa Police Department

November 2, 2016 – Officer Justin Martin was shot and killed by ambush. He was sitting in his patrol car at an intersection when a suspect approached and fired 15-30 rounds into the car.

Des Moines Iowa Police Department

November 2, 2016 – Sergeant Anthony Beminio was shot and killed by ambush. He was sitting in his patrol car at an intersection when a suspect approached and fired 15-30 rounds into the car.

Deputy Sheriff Dan Glaze, 33

Rusk County Wisconsin Sheriff’s Office

October 29, 2016 – Deputy Dan Glaze was shot and killed while investigating a suspicious vehicle.

Sergeant Allen Brandt, 34

Fairbanks Alaska Police Department

October 28, 2016 – Sergeant Allen Brandt died as a result of gunshot wounds he sustained a few days earlier when he pulled his car over to approach a pedestrian. As he approached, the man opened fire striking Sergeant Brandt five times. Once shot, he fell to the ground where the suspect then kicked him in the head and stole his weapon and patrol car.

Sergeant Brandt is survived by his wife and four children.

Officer Myron Jarrett, 40

Detroit Michigan Police Department

October 28, 2016 – Officer Myron Jarrett was struck and killed while assisting other officers during a traffic stop. A van traveling at a high rate of speed struck Officer Jarrett as he prepared to enter his patrol car. The van stopped but the driver and female passenger then fled on foot.

Officer Jorge Sanchez, 53

Miami Florida Police Department

October 31, 2016 – Officer Jorge Sanchez was killed when his motorcycle was struck from behind while stopped at an intersection. The driver of the vehicle also struck several other cars.

Officer Sanchez is survived by his three children, mother, and fiancee.

Sergeant Rod Lucas, 46

Fresno County California Sheriff’s Office

October 31, 2016 – Sergeant Rod Lucas was accidentally shot and killed when another detective’s weapon discharged inside their office. Ironically, they’d been discussing the safety of backup weapons at the time of the shooting.

Sergeant Lucas is survived by his wife and four children.

Deputy Sheriff Scott Williams, 46

Taylor County Florida Sheriff’s Office

October 31, 2016 – Deputy Scott Williams was killed when his patrol car collided with a logging truck.

Officer James Brockmeyer, 22

Chester Illinois Police Department

October 28, 2016 – Officer James Brockmeyer was killed in a car crash while pursuing a vehicle. The vehicle he’d been pursuing continued to flee.

Officer Brockmeyer is survived by his parents and sister.
