Correctional Officer Clarence Tariq Hammond III, 33

Michigan Department of Corrections

January 14, 2012 – Correctional Officer Clarence Hammond was shot and killed when a suspect attempted to rob him as he arrived home after completing his shift. He was in uniform at the time of the attempted robbery. He leaves behind two young sons.

Agent Francis Crespo-Mandry, 55

Puerto Rico Police Department

January 18, 2012 – Agent Francis Crespo-Mandry was shot and killed while responding to a robbery-in-progress alarm at a gas station. When Agent Crespo-Mandry and another officer arrived at the scene, two suspects immediately opened fire. Agent Crespo-Mandry leaves behind his wife and two children.

Deputy Sheriff Randall L. Benoit, 41

Calcasieu Parish Louisiana Sheriff’s Office

January 18, 2012 – Deputy Sheriff Randall Benoit was killed in a head-on automobile crash while on patrol.
