Definition of sadness: Sitting in a dimly lit hospice room, holding your sick child’s hand while watching the bright red second hand of a wall clock spin round and round and round as it tick-tocks her life away.
And there’s not a d%#* thing you can do to stop it.

If you’d like to contribute to Ellen’s fundraiser, you can do so by clicking the link below. They need all the help they can get to help with staggering medical bills, and for the inevitable expense that will present itself within the very near future.

As many of you know, our daughter Ellen has battled serious, excruciatingly painful cancer, received aggressive chemo and radiation treatments, and lately she began immunotherapy, all during the past three years.

She’s also endured several surgeries, with the most recent just last week and another the week prior. Unfortunately, the latter surgery was unsuccessful, leaving doctors to determine that her options had run out.

Ellen was then transported to a hospice care facility where she’s now receiving round the clock care. She is heavily sedated and finally free of the horrific pain associated with the cancer and the damage it inflicted on her body.

When she’s able, Ellen fondly recalls her friends and all the wacky things you did together. And she’s thoroughly enjoyed meeting numerous writers at WPA events and online. Thinking of the good times results in a slight smile and sometimes an indication of a chuckle.

I thank you all for making the memories in her mind a happy place for her to visit.

Her time is now very short, and these remaining days and hours are precious. She loves you all.

This is a father’s worst nightmare.

*Needless to say, I won’t be posting online articles for a while. I am, however, reading comments posted to my Facebook page. They provide some comfort.
